Good morning, Salem.

A cold case that hung over Polk County for 25 years came to a close late Thursday afternoon.

Brian Clifton, 69, pleaded guilty to murdering his wife, 43-year-old Kathy Thomas, in 1996.

A Polk County Circuit Court judge sentenced Clifton to life in prison. He will serve a minimum of 30 years.

It wasn’t until 2019 that detectives identified the woman whose remains were found two decades before on the hills overlooking Mill Creek. Find that story below.

Here’s some local news to start your day off. You can find all of our stories anytime by heading to our website.
