Good morning, Salem.

With the school year approaching, a local nonprofit is asking the community to donate backpacks and school supplies for students in the foster care system.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

The back-to-school supply drive is run by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Marion County. The organization pairs minors in the child welfare system with court-appointed volunteer advocates.

Donations can be made online and supplies can be dropped off in person at CASA’s local office in Keizer, 3530 River Rd. N. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

School supplies needed include three-ring binders (1.5 inches), highlighters, scissors, graph paper, thin and regular markers, new backpacks facial tissues crayons notebook paper, pencils, colored pencils, pencil pouches, erasers, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks pencil sharpeners headphones, glue sticks and rulers.

Supplies need to be dropped off by Sept. 6.
