On Monday, a news release from the City of Salem included the official notification from the clerk’s office affirming that they verified 4,595 signatures and some data about the submissions.

Verification required that those who signed are active registered voters within the city of Salem.

The county evaluated 6,127 signatures for verification and rejected 25% of them for not qualifying.

Of those evaluated, 988 signatures were rejected because those who signed lived out of the district, the most common reason for rejection. 266 of those who signed were not registered to vote. Other reasons for rejections were that people were inactive voters, signatures did not match those on file and duplicate signatures.
