Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 30, to install a new pedestrian crossing at the intersection with Northeast Watson Avenue.

The new crossing will include include a raised median island, a pedestrian signal, sidewalk ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and improved lighting, according to a news release from the city of Salem.

The signal is intended to alert drivers to pedestrians and bicyclists waiting to cross Lancaster. “Flashing yellow lights will provide greater safety and visibility to those going to nearby shopping areas,” the release said.

Pedestrians who cross Northeast Lancaster Drive are asked to cross at Northeast Devonshire Court to the north or Northeast Beverly Avenue to the South.
