A jury on Monday found PacificCorp’s negligence led to the 2020 Labor Day wildfires that torched much of the Santiam Canyon, as well as other locations around the state. The trial centered on the utility’s decision not to de-energize power lines during a windstorm with high fire danger.

The jury awarded 17 plaintiffs $4.4 million for economic damages and $67.5 in non-economic damages, the Oregonian/OregonLive reported. The utility, Oregon’s second largest, is appealing the verdict, according to a statement.

Now, here are some of our latest reports. You can find more on our website.
