Following a record number of fatal crashes in 2024, the Salem Police Department will focus on enforcing traffic safety and educating the public for the next three years as part of a new strategic plan. During 2024, Salem police responded to 21 fatal crashes, but the Salem area had 26 in total.

Duo accused of stealing mail from five people in Salem, Keizer
Leobardo Bautista-Gonzalez and Jhan Cruz-Munoz were charged on Tuesday with five counts of mail theft. Police reported finding them in a car with “a large amount of mail” as the doors of two nearby mailboxes sat open.
