Police are asking residents to avoid North River Road at the Salem-Keizer border after what they described as “an officer-involved shooting involving one individual.”

Salem police are investigating a scene at the Laurel Gate Court Apartments at 3355 River Rd. N. At least 20 police vehicles were present Wednesday around 1:15 p.m.

The Salem Police Department made the announcement on X at 12:02 p.m. on Wednesday but provided no details, including whether anyone was killed.

“There is a significant emergency response presence,” the agency wrote.

Northeast River Road is shut down in both directions at Northeast Shangri La Avenue, according to Lt. Trevor Wenning, spokesman for the Keizer Police Department. The agency is controlling traffic at the scene.
