Months of work later, Marion County no longer in public defense crisis

Salem bicyclist dies from injuries two weeks after downtown crash
Last month, Richard A. Hawkins died from the injuries he sustained after crashing into a car downtown while riding an electric bicycle through an intersection. Witnesses reported the involved driver had a green light.

Surveillance video shows federal agents arresting 2 inside Marion County Courthouse
Courthouse footage released Friday by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows two immigration arrests in the hallway of the Marion County Courthouse on Thursday, March 26. Sheriff’s deputies are seen observing the first arrest from a close distance, with one escorting the federal agents and the man arrested into a public elevator.

Feds seek judge’s order to get Marion County parole records for ICE
The U.S. Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, April 1, asked a judge to enforce immigration subpoenas sent to four Oregon counties for information on people previously convicted of serious crimes, mostly in the last 10 years.

Bridgeway to open Salem’s first sobering center, giving people a first step into treatment
In early June, Salem's first sobering center will open at Bridgeway Community Health's downtown hub for recovery services. The building's expansion will also add a larger place for people to be treated for withdrawal and get primary medical care.
