Good evening, Salem.

The weather will be heating up this week, with temperatures forecasted to reach nearly 100 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the region from noon Thursday through 10 p.m. Friday.

On Wednesday, there will be a high of 93 degrees, according to the weather service. Thursday will see a high of 99 degrees and Friday will see a high of 97 degrees. It will cool down to around 65 degrees each night, according to the forecast.

The weather service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms when possible and checking in on relatives and neighbors.

“Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes,” the service said.
