Good morning, Salem.

This Sunday, March 24, Salem Symphonic Winds will celebrate the music from several regions in the Middle East, including a world premiere of a new arrangement.

The concert will introduce the band arrangement of “The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám by Alan Hovhaness,” inspired by the poet’s themes of life, death, love and fate in a fusion of eastern and western music.

The concert will highlight accordionist Tommy Thompson, and soprano singer Rebecca Fromherz who will perform two opera arias. The show will include a range of music, including “the “Theme from Lawrence of Arabia” and “Klezmer Classics.”

The concert starts at 3 p.m., and will be at the Rose Auditorium, South Salem High School, 700 Howard St. S.E. Tickets are available online and range from $5 to $25.
