The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
If you go on a hike east of Salem, keep your eyes peeled for a souvenir to take home.
The annual Willamette Valley Ornament Hunt has dispersed little ornaments on trails in the Willamette Valley National Forest’s Detroit Ranger District, by Detroit Lake.
Trails include Stahlman Point Trail, Tumble Creek Trail, Detroit Flats Day-Use Area and Upper Arm Day-Use Area, according to a post from Travel Salem. The trail options range from wheelchair-accessible to unpaved strenuous hikes.
The treasure hunt goes through Dec. 31. Ornaments are backed by a bright blue paper, and will be hung at eye-level or lower. They do not require going off the trail. The organizers, the Willamette Valley Visitors Association, ask that hikers limit their finds to one ornament per household.
Anyone who finds one can register to win the grand prize of a two-night stay in the Willamette Valley. See the association’s website for participating hikes outside the Salem area.
