The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
Ballots were mailed out to registered voters in Salem on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Election day for the mail vote is Nov. 7.
Those folks in Salem will see a proposed payroll tax on their ballots. If approved, it would affect wage-earning and self-employed Salem workers earning above minimum wage for their work performed within city limits.
The wage tax is intended to raise money to keep and expand city services. A business-led campaign forced the tax onto the ballot after the Salem City Council initially approved it earlier this year without a public vote.
Elsewhere in Marion County, voters will decide on tax measures related to fire services for the Aurora Rural Fire, Idanha-Detroit Fire, Jefferson Rural Fire, Keizer Fire and Marion County Fire District 1.
Bond measures are on the ballot for voters in the Silver Falls and St. Paul School Districts, along with a tax levy in Donald.
