After a community vote, the Salem Public Library has announced the new Salem Reads book: “The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina” by Zoraida Córdova.
According to the library’s Aug. 22 announcement, the 2021 novel is an “epic tale of a family impacted by a dramatic matriarch, called together to attend her funeral and to collect their inheritance. Seven years later, the gifts bestowed by Orquídea Divina begin to tear the family apart.”
The annual reading program from the Salem Public Library Foundation starts in February, and encourages Salemites to share their thoughts on a book through discussion and community events. The 2023 pick was “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood” from comedian Trevor Noah.
“The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina” is available to read or listen to at the library, with copies in print, large print, CD audiobook, and in Spanish. There area also eBooks and eAudiobooks available through the apps cloudLibrary and Libby.
