Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Local firefighters contained a grass fire south of Salem near Marion Tuesday afternoon.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was evacuating residents in the area of Southeast Pearson Road and Southeast Duckflat Road early Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release. By 3:40 p.m., the fire was contained and evacuations had been lifted, though fire crews were still in the area.
Jefferson Fire District, Turner Fire, Aumsville Fire, Sublimity Fire, Stayton Fire, Scio Fire and Salem Fire responded, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
Fire danger continues across northwest Oregon Tuesday afternoon. Salem and most of the Willamette Valley are under a red flag warning, meaning conditions are dry, hot and windy.
The National Weather Service’s Portland office warns, “Conditions may be favorable for rapid fire spread which may threaten life and property. Use extra caution with potential ignition sources, especially in grassy areas. Outdoor burning is not recommended.”
The warning is in effect until 7 p.m. this evening.
