Be the first to see Salem’s new skate park design at Tuesday meeting

Architects will unveil a new plan for Salem’s forthcoming Geer Park Skate Park Tuesday after revising two early proposals based on community feedback.

The online meeting will take place Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Interested residents can get a first look at the plans, designed by Evergreen Skateparks, and ask questions. Access the meeting here.

The revised design includes a “clover bowl, down rails, bank to ledge, hip, cantilevered edge, flow zone, pyramid hip, and various jumps and transfers, including a moonscape with small transitions,” said Trevor Smith, city parks spokesman, in an email. “The skate park will also feature the green space in the center of the feature that was popular with many who gave their input on the new design.”

Salem currently only has one skatepark, the one in Marion Square Park.

The city has planned for a second to be added in Geer Park as part of a larger improvement project, with construction expected to begin in 2024.

Evergreen Skateparks has built several skateparks around the U.S. including several in Oregon like the skatepark at Windells Ski Camp in Mt. Hood and Luuwit Skate Park in Portland.

The skate park will be approximately 20,000 square feet, have a construction budget of $877,500 and incorporate features for all ages, abilities and skill levels, according to earlier city documents about the project.
