Salem elementary schools get state help for reading tutors

More than 1,000 students in local elementary schools will get extra help from reading tutors starting in the fall.
The money is part of a statewide effort to improve Oregon’s dismal student reading scores by giving extra help to schools and districts struggling the most.
Salem-Keizer School District officials recently learned they would get a $1.5 million grant from the Oregon Department of Education to pay for reading tutoring programs over the next two years.

I’m so glad to see this investment in our schools!
Is there a way for retirees to volunteer their time to assist children in developing reading skills?
