UPDATE: 16-year-old boy shot in east Salem has been released from the hospital

A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times Sunday night and went to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Landers said deputies went to the area of Lancaster Drive Northeast and Silverton Road Northeast around 9:30 p.m. after hearing reports of gunfire.

The victim showed up at Salem Health shortly after the shooting with nonlife-threatening injuries while deputies were searching the area behind Safeway, Landers said.

Landers said deputies are continuing to investigate what happened and have talked with the teen. They are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a vehicle involved in the shooting.
