Good evening, Salem.
If you’ve been active on social media lately, it might seem like homes are catching fire left and right across the city.
The Salem Fire Department has shared photos from the scenes of apartment fires and homes in recent weeks as weather has cooled off. Another two local houses caught fire over the weekend.
We thought it seemed like an uptick, so reporter Madeleine Moore sat down with Salem Fire Chief David Gerboth today to ask about it and other issues facing the department.
His answer? Salem isn’t seeing more house fires than typical in recent weeks – the fire department has just been more proactive about posting on social media when they do fight one.
He also gave us an update some readers may appreciate.
The kitten firefighters resuscitated following an apartment fire earlier this month is doing just fine. Its owners stopped by a recent fire department open house to let the firefighters know.
