Good evening, Salem.

The Salem Public Library this week announced “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” a story of unlikely friendships and family, as the pick for the annual community reading event.

Salem Reads is a month-long event in February where the library offers a variety of discussions, programs and art based on the themes in a book. Author Shelby Van Pelt will come to Salem Thursday, Feb. 19 for a free public event.

The book is free to check out for people who want to get a jump start on the community reading program. The Salem Public Library Foundation sponsors Salem Reads and typically makes free copies of the selected book available in a giveaway closer to the program’s start date.
