Salem’s senior center has gone from famine to feast.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

Center 50+ is embarking on an ambitious plan to recruit almost 2,000 new volunteers and double the number of seniors it serves thanks to a $2.7 million grant.

The money, from the Mountain West Center for Community Excellence, is intended to help Center 50+ and its nonprofit, Friends of Center 50+, build capacity to raise money and do more over time.

For seniors, that means more programs that will travel to them. Center 50+ staff especially want to focus on programs at mobile and manufactured home parks, where they receive a large number of calls for help.
