Good evening, Salem.
Residents may soon see a notice on their doors of city inspections and planned treatment of ash trees to protect them from emerald ash borer. Tags will note whether a tree has been treated or just inspected, city officials said Wednesday.
Emerald ash borer kills ash trees after laying larvae on them. The larvae burrow into the tree and eat, cutting off the trees nutrients.
The pest was discovered locally for the first time in 2024. City officials began working on a plan then to prevent and contain damage.
