The city of Salem ended its three leases with the restaurant Tuesday, saying the owners had not paid rent. The restaurant’s three spaces on Northeast Chemeketa Street were closed during usual business hours today.
Readers have expressed concern and confusion on Facebook over the restaurant’s apparent closure. We’re working to get more information from the city about the lease and amount owed.

Notices posted on Rudy’s Steakhouse Tuesday afternoon indicated the city of Salem was repossessing the space, leaving the future of the 27-year-old restaurant up in the air.
Oregon has no functional system to compel psychiatric treatment for unsheltered people dying slowly from neglect. That leaves Salem Hospital as the only outlet for many of Salem’s most vulnerable.
