Salem-area community college gets funding to train semiconductor workforce

A statewide semiconductor initiative could see up to $160 million in federal funding over the next decade, and Chemeketa Community College has been named as one of the four core academic partners.

Larry Cheyne, Chemeketa’s Dean of Applied Technologies, said the funding will boost workforce development in the semiconductor industry. The initiative is hoping to deliver 4,000 grads into the semiconductor industry each year.
