After budget cut, Church at the Park will have fewer workers getting people into housing
Starting in February, Church at the Park will have fewer outreach workers available to help people move from Salem’s streets into shelters and apartments while guiding them through challenges applying for health care, employment and social services.

The sheltering organizations are a joke. Having been in them for four years and never getting housed I can rightfully say this. They care about numbers for funding not people. The staff that really make a difference they fire. Shoot at one shelter it was considered a person was housed when they pass you on to a new program. They get to write that as housed to ensure their numbers for money. The system is broke period.

They handled layoffs so bad last year. Kept just repeating, “we don’t who exactly will be let go,” and then (despite claiming their culture is all about seeing the humanity in everyone building human connections) people would just be gone without a chance to say goodbye their colleagues or even an acknowledgement that they were let go. Absolutely fucked way to handle the situation. The CEO and COO just kept up their fake grins and hopefull personas as they let a bunch of people go into a horrible job market.
It’s also totally irresponsible that they expanded using temporary emergency government funds with no longterm plans for sustainability.
It was all just a hard reminder to me to never trust Christians again, no matter how progressive they pretend to be.
