Pedestrian, 71, killed in NE Salem crash

A driver struck and killed a 71-year-old pedestrian in northeast Salem early Wednesday morning. 

Police responded to the intersection of Northeast Pine Street and Northeast Brooks Avenue at 7:26 a.m. after a caller reported the crash, according to a Salem Police Department statement. 

Patrick Neufeld, 38, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck, struck Nina Elsom as she was crossing the street.

First responders attempted life-saving measures, but Elsom died at the scene.
