What to do in Salem from March 20-26: Bagel food truck, spring break, plant sale

Pints for Pups

Thursday, March 20: Enjoy a night at Santiam Brewing to support 4 All MuttKind, a local animal rescue, and play with puppies and learn about fostering pets. A portion of pint sales will go toward the rescue. There is also a suggested $5 donation to have a snuggle session with one of the adoptable puppies.

Pints for Pups starts at 5:30 p.m. at Santiam Brewing, which is located at 2544 19th St. S.E. More information is available on Facebook

Deepwood Plant Sale

*Friday, March 21 & Saturday, March 22: People looking for new plants are in luck as Deepwood Museum and Gardens is hosting a weekend plant sale. The sale will include a variety of native and companion plants, seeds, pottery and more. There will also be a chance to go on free guided tours of Deepwood’s nature trails and gardens. 

Throughout the event, there will be an expert available to ask plant-related questions. The sale will take place at the parking lot on the corner of Southeast 12th and Lee Streets. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. More information is available on Facebook

Cherry City Bagels opening

*Saturday, March 22: A new bagel food truck is opening in Salem at the Beehive Station food truck pod in south Salem. Salem Reporter recently spoke with Cherry City Bagels about their upcoming opening and their hope to ease the “bagel desert” in Salem. 

The opening event will have games, raffles and a sample giveaway. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Beehive Station, 1510 Fabry Rd. S.E. Information is available online.

Teacher comedy

Saturday, March 22: Join a few teachers at Infinity Room for a night of stand up comedy focused on classroom dynamics experienced by the comedians on stage. Katie Nguyen, Todd Basil and Rachel Aflleje and special guests will  share their teaching experiences for a night of laughter. 

Tickets are still available online for the 9:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. Infinity Room is located at 210 Liberty St. S.E. $150. 

David Bowie tribute show

Sunday, March 23: A teenage performance group is joining forces with the Salem Orchestra to perform a David Bowie tribute concert with a performance of the full album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.” Musicians from RiverCity Rock Star Academy’s performance group are leading the concert, which will start with a performance from The Hypnatwists. 

The concert will take place at Salem’s Grand Theatre, located at 191 High St. N.E. The concert is a fundraiser for this year’s Make Music Salem day, which is June 21. The show starts at 4 p.m., doors open at 5 p.m. General admission tickets are $20. 

Spring Break passport activity

*Monday, March 24 – Saturday, March 29: The city of Salem is leading a city-wide passport activity starting Monday for children who are on spring break next week. The activity will send people on a search around the city to do activities and fill a passport with stamps.

The passport, which is available online, provides a list of eight places to stop at to complete activities and receive a stamp. Some of the stops are the State Capitol, Willamette Heritage Center, World Beat Gallery and the Salem Public Library. Activities will range from small scavenger hunts, coloring and crafts, museum tours and a dance party.
