Salem man dies in train collision Sunday afternoon in NE Salem

A train struck and killed a Salem man Sunday morning in northeast Salem, according to the Salem Police Department.
Emergency responders arrived around 11:30 a.m. at the railroad tracks near the intersection of Northeast 22nd Avenue and Northeast Claxter Road.
The train crew spotted the man and sounded the horn repeatedly prior to the collision, police said.
Salem police said the 35-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.
Police concluded their investigation and released the train to continue its route around 5 p.m., the agency said in a news release Monday.
