A shooting left a man hospitalized in critical condition Thursday night in the parking lot of a Hayesville apartment complex, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office provided few details about the shooting in a Facebook post and did not say whether a suspect had been arrested.
The agency received reports around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, of a shooting on Northeast Silver Park Place. The road is the parking lot of the Silverpark Apartments in unincorporated northeast Salem.
Deputies arrived to find a man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook Thursday night.
The agency said it could provide no other information because detectives were investigating the shooting.
It asked anyone with information about the shooting to submit tips online, by texting TIPMCSO and their tip to 8474, or by calling dispatchers at 503-588-5032.
A Salem Police Department report in November 2023 showed that shootings in the city doubled in the previous five years and were largely concentrated in northeast Salem. But the researchers hired by the city didn’t count parts of east Salem outside city limits such as Hayesville and Four Corners, where the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responds to reports of violence.
The sheriff’s office in March hired the same researchers to investigate the state of violence across the county and create a similar report that includes unincorporated east Salem. Marion County Sheriff Nick Hunter recently told Salem Reporter that hopes to share his agency’s findings this month, with information about specific neighborhoods included.
