Police identify victims of fatal crash Monday on Cordon Road

The Salem Police Department has identified a man and woman who died in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Southeast Cordon Road Monday morning. 

Mariela Franco-Ramos, 28, of Mt. Angel, and Heriberto Rangel-Rangel, 46, of Silverton, died in the collision. 

They were traveling in the same truck when the crash occurred, Salem police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon. Police did not say who was driving.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the crash site shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.

Salem police said at the time that three adults in one of the vehicles were seriously injured and transported to Salem Hospital. Police did not make clear which vehicle the injured people were in.

Franco-Ramos and Rangel-Rangel died by the time emergency responders arrived.

Salem police said they are still investigating the collision and have not made an arrest or issued a citation.

They otherwise provided no details about the crash.

The Salem agency has responded to 18 fatal crashes this year, resulting in 19 deaths.
