Man and woman die in head-on crash on Cordon Road, three seriously injured

Two people died after a head-on crash between two pickup trucks on Southeast Cordon Road Monday morning. 

A man and woman, occupants of one of the trucks, died by the time emergency personnel arrived at the scene. Salem police arrived at the crash site with emergency responders at 10:09 a.m., according to a news release. 

Three adults in one of the vehicles involved were seriously injured and transported to Salem Health. Police did not make clear which vehicle the injured people were in and did not immediately respond to follow up questions Monday evening.

The names of vehicle occupants involved in the crash were not released as of Monday afternoon, as police waited to notify relatives. 

At around 10:30 a.m., Salem police announced a road closure on Cordon Road from Southeast Gaffin and Caplinger Roads. 

The 1100 block of Southeast Cordon Road was closed for around four hours. 

Salem police are still investigating the crash, the department said in the release.
