Police arrested a Salem man early Friday who is accused of a domestic violence shooting at a southeast Salem home.
George Brown Jr., was jailed on charges related to a shooting in the 800 block of Southeast 25th Street.
Callers reported a woman with a gunshot wound yelling for help at 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 2, police said in a Friday news release. Salem police arrived on scene to find a woman who had multiple gunshot wounds, and a man.
The man, identified as 33-year-old George Brown Jr., was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted rape, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
The victim, 30, was in stable condition as she was transported to the hospital.
Investigators determined that Brown Jr. and the victim are in a domestic relationship and had been in a physical altercation Friday morning before the shooting, the news release said.
Police identified the weapon used as a small-caliber handgun.
Brown Jr. is in custody at Marion County Jail and has not been charged with a crime as of Friday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
