PHOTOS: Tianguis brings a lively celebration of Mexican culture to Riverfront Park

Families clustered in the shade, sipping tepache and clapping as guitarists and DJs took the stage in Riverfront Park Saturday, May 11.

The inaugural Tianguis de Salem was the brainchild of Salem event producer Omar Alvarado, who wanted a space to celebrate artists and vendors highlighting Mexican and Mesoamerican heritage.

Alvarado said a key goal for the event was to include Latin music across a wider range of genres than the traditional mariachi music often featured at cultural events.
