UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies in crash on SE Commercial Street, road reopened

Salem police are investigating a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a car on Southeast Commercial Street Wednesday morning. The motorcyclist was killed.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Zachary Hendrickson, 32, of Salem.

The preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Traffic Team indicated that a sedan traveling southbound on Commercial Street initiated a turn east into the parking lot of a business when the motorcycle rider collided into the car.

The driver of the car was identified as Shannon Evans, 54, of Salem.

Police said on X at 7:30 a.m. that the northbound lanes of Commercial were closed between Southeast Hilfiker Lane and the 12th Street Cutoff were closed. The road reopened around three hours later, according to Angela Hedrick, spokeswoman for the Salem Police Department.

The crash is the 10th traffic fatality in Salem this year.
