Home fire in NE Salem leaves 1 dead Wednesday

A fire on Wednesday at a home near northeast Salem’s Lansing neighborhood left one person dead.

Salem Fire Department officials said they would not identify the male victim until the agency notifies relatives of the death.

Fire crews were called to the fire at 3362 Sunnyview Road N.E. at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to an emergency dispatch report.

The home was “fully involved” in the fire when they arrived three minutes later, the city of Salem said in a news release Wednesday night.

Crews entered the home and found the victim, who they moved to a waiting ambulance.

After examining the victim and consulting hospital workers, they determined the victim was dead.

Joe Hutchinson, Salem’s Emergency Manager, said Thursday morning that the cause of the fire was still under investigation. He declined to say where the victim was in the home during the fire.
