OBITUARY: Mikel D. Darras

With a heavy heart, our family must share the news of the unexpected death of Mikel D. Darras on Sunday, February 11. Mike was born July 5, 1959, the oldest son of Jerome D. and Doreen B. Darras.  His mom would joke that he was kind enough to wait to be born until after the July 4th celebration at the St. Paul Rodeo.

Mike attended Hayesville Elementary School, Waldo Middle School and graduated from McNary High School.  He was a championship wrestler for McNary and during his tenure was number one in the district and won many tournaments for McNary.  He went on to earn an associate’s degree from Chemeketa in Auto Mechanics.

Mike met Carrie Ginther in 1983 when they both worked for Frey’s Thriftway.  They married June 1986 and made their home in Northeast Salem where they have continued to reside during the past 37-1/2 years.

Mike and Carrie purchased Ace Septic Tank Service in December 1989 and grew it into Ace Septic and Excavating, Inc. and Ace Chemical Toilets, the thriving business that it is today. Mike was an accomplished builder/fabricator. He was responsible for fabricating and building many of the work trucks, trailers, and necessary specialty tools that were needed to run their business.

Mike was “Mr. Fix- It.” He enjoyed acquiring bargains, working or not. The challenge of making “it” work again was the ultimate prize.  He was a “one in a million” man who was the most driven, hard-working, loyal person you have ever met.  His goal was to build a thriving business and provide for his family.

Mike leaves behind his loving wife, Carrie, son Garrett (Aja), and daughter Jessica (Tyler) Jones.  A devoted “Papa” he is also survived by his grandchildren, Camden James, Ellie Marie, Carter James, Cash Mikel, Marley Alice Renae. He also leaves behind his brother, Jay and sister, Ione as well and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Children’s Cancer Association (Joyrx.org), Portland OR. A celebration of life will be held, Sunday June 2, at Log House Gardens, 5655 Windsor Island Rd N, Keizer, OR.
