Woman injured in early morning shooting in northeast Salem

Police say an altercation resulted in a woman being shot and injured early Tuesday morning in a northeast Salem business district.

The Salem Police Department has not made any arrests and is not investigating the shooting further because everyone at the scene declined to cooperate with police, including the injured woman, according to agency spokeswoman Angela Hedrick.

Officers responded around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a woman with a gunshot wound in the 3300 block of Northeast Market Street.

The 39-year-old woman was taken to Salem Hospital. She told police she did not want to be listed as a victim, according to Hedrick.

Those present at the scene were all in their 30s and “known to each other,” Hedrick said. They declined to tell police whether they witnessed the shooting.

Hedrick did not know if the injured woman had been released but said she was “up and talking at the hospital.”
