Police investigating “suspicious death” of teen found in car in NE Salem

Salem police say they are investigating a suspicious death after finding a teen boy dead in a car Monday morning in a northeast Salem neighborhood.

The agency did not identify the 15-year-old victim or clarify how he died in a Tuesday evening news release.

Police responded around 7:30 a.m. Monday to a report of an unconscious person in a vehicle in the 1000 block of Northeast Evergreen Avenue. Officers arrived to find the teen boy dead in the vehicle, according to the police statement.

“Salem Police detectives are investigating the teen’s death and working all available leads.

No other information about this active investigation is being released, including the name of the victim who is a minor,” the agency said in the statement.

Salem police spokeswoman Angela Hedrick told Salem Reporter the agency does not identify teens involved in criminal investigations.

The area where the teen was found is near the Jory Apartments, 909 Park Ave. N.E.

Salem police asked anyone with information about this teen’s death to call the agency’s tips line at 503-588-8477.
