UPDATE: South River Road reopened after fatal south Salem collision

Update: Salem police said just after 5 p.m. Thursday that South River Road was reopened following a fatal collision.

South River Road in south Salem is partly closed Thursday morning after after one person was killed in a collision.

The crash, which involved a dump truck and an SUV, occurred at the intersection of South River Road and South Viewcrest Drive, the Salem Police Department announced on social media around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

River Road will remain closed for several hours between South Illahe Heights Drive and South Riverdale Road. The area is near the Croisan-Illahe neighborhood.

Salem police asked drivers to find alternate routes as emergency responders investigate the collision.

The police statement did not specify when the crash occurred.
