Woman stabs Salem bank worker, threatens officer with 2 knives before arrest, police say

Police say a disgruntled customer stabbed an employee at a south Salem bank Thursday morning before being subdued by an officer and arrested.

Beatriz A. Navarro, 35, was booked on accusations of second-degree assault, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon into Marion County Jail, where she was being held without bail as of Thursday afternoon, the jail’s roster showed.

The Salem Police Department received a report around 10 a.m. that an upset customer had stabbed an employee at Wells Fargo Bank, 3997 Commercial St. S.E., according to department spokeswoman Angela Hedrick.

“As the arriving officer approached the woman inside the bank, she came at the officer with a knife in each hand,” Hedrick said in an email. When the officer deployed his Taser, Navarro dropped the knives and was arrested.

The bank employee, 33, was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury, Hedrick said.

Marion County Deputy District Attorney Brendan Murphy said prosecutors would review police reports Friday to make a charging decision.
