Silverton man killed in crash on Highway 214 Wednesday

Police say say a Silverton man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 214 in northeast Marion County Wednesday morning.

At 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, the Oregon State Police responded to a three vehicle crash on the highway at the intersection with Northeast Downs Road in Marion County, the agency said in a statement Thursday. The area is between Mt. Angel and Silverton.

Police determined the driver of a Honda Civic, 19-year-old Diceon M. Macias of Salem, was headed east on Northeast Downs Road and attempted to cross Highway 214, according to the statement.

The Honda Civic entered the roadway and struck the side of a Ford Taurus driven by Mitchell Daniel Kuenzi, 23 of Silverton, who was traveling south on the highway.

The crash caused the Taurus to enter the northbound lane of Highway 214, where a Jeep Gladiator driven by James A. Nosen, 68 of Woodburn, struck the Taurus on its driver’s side door, police said in the statement.

Kuenzi was declared dead at the scene.  The other people involved received medical evaluation or treatment due to the crash, the police statement said.

The road was closed for about four hours for an investigation of the crash.

The Mt. Angel Fire Department, Silverton Fire Departmentt, Silverton Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted state police in responding to the crash, according to the statement.
