Salem Reporter publishes a monthly roundup of live entertainment and major community events on the last Friday of each month. See an example calendar here. Events are listed by category, then chronologically.
We publish a monthly listing of art, historical and cultural exhibits at local museums and venues.
We publish a weekly event roundup Wednesdays at 4 p.m. that includes the following 7 days.
Our reporters also write stories in advance of many major Salem events and photographers often cover those events.
What we cover
Our focus is on events and news in Salem, not surrounding communities.
We don’t include political rallies or marches, campaign events or other partisan or political gatherings in our events calendars. We will include educational or informative programs about politics or civics, such as Salem City Club programs or lectures at the Salem Public Library.
Events should be open to the public. It’s fine if your event is restricted to a particular demographic, like families, seniors or high school students, but we don’t publicize events that are members-only.
There’s no set formula for what events we send photographers to or preview in advance, but here are a few things we consider:
- Event size. We usually cover most of Salem’s large annual events, like World Beat, the Salem Art Fair and the Awesome 3000.
- Novelty. If you or your organization is starting a new offering, like line dancing at a gay bar or Tianguis, a Mesoamerican market and festival, we’d love to hear what you’re doing and why.
- Local flavor. We like to highlight Salem people doing interesting and unique things, or special events with an Oregon connection. Some recent examples include the homegrown Cocaine Crabs from Outer Space indie film and Salem Cinema’s screening of a feature film shot in Ashland.
What to send us
To submit an event please email Managing Editor Rachel Alexander at [email protected]. Submissions for our monthly calendar should be received by the 25th of the month.
Please include the date(s), time, location, a brief description of the event, cost to attend, a link to a website or page with more information (like a Facebook event), and a link to buy tickets in advance, if applicable. Also provide contact information (name, email, phone) in case we want to get additional details.
