Pedestrian killed in south Salem hit-and-run

A driver struck and killed a woman who was crossing a driveway in south Salem Tuesday evening.

Salem police said drivers traveling eastbound on Southeast Madrona Avenue reported an injured woman in the road west of Southeast Commercial Street around 5:30 p.m., according to a police department news release.

Paramedics transported the victim, 74-year-old Linda Louise Wisher, to Salem Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The police department’s traffic team investigated and found evidence of a crash scene nearby at the intersection of Madrona and Southeast Woodbridge Court. Their investigation determined Wisher was walking along the street when she crossed the driveway to an apartment complex. Wisher was hit by a driver exiting the property and dragged several hundred feet, police said.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Police said anyone with information should call the Traffic Team at 503-588-6171.
