Brothers arrested in northeast Salem shooting

Police on Wednesday arrested two brothers charged with shooting a woman in northeast Salem a month ago.

The shooting occurred Aug. 28 shooting incident in the 400 block of Northeast 24th Street, the Salem Police Department wrote in a statement Thursday.

A Marion County grand jury on Sept. 16 indicted Israel F. Anaya, 27, on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a firearm as a felon. Aaron M. Anaya, 19, was indicted on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The woman was seriously injured in the shooting, according to the brothers’ indictments, filed in Marion County Circuit Court.

Salem detectives coordinated with the Linn-Benton Counties Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, serving a search warrant at the family’s Lebanon home where the brothers were arrested. Detectives found eight firearms during the search, according to the department’s statement.

The brothers were booked into Marion County Jail, where they were being held without bail as of Thursday.
