Expect closures on S River Road through Sept. 6

Drivers using South River Road should expect traffic restrictions beginning Monday as crews work on the adjacent hillside, the city of Salem said.

The northbound lane on the road south of South Owens Street will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the city said in a news release. Flaggers will direct traffic.

The work will continue through Sept. 6.

Crews are working to extend the mesh screens on the hillside. The area saw a landslide in December 2021 following heavy rains that closed the roadway for six days.

Drivers can check the city’s road conditions map online for a list of scheduled and current road closures in Salem. For more information, contact the city at 503-588-6211 or [email protected].
