Southeast Salem house fire injures owner, firefighter

A south Salem home caught fire late Monday morning, injuring the homeowner and a city firefighter.

The Salem Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at 11:10 a.m. in the 300 block of 14th St. S.E., according to Brian Carrara, deputy chief of administrative services.

The owner of the home sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital.

One firefighter who had a minor injury was treated at the hospital and released.

“We conducted a primary and secondary search and there was no one else found,” Carrara said Monday.

He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The city closed roads between Southeast Mill and Trade Streets but has since reopened them.
