Police identify Salem woman found dead in car last week

Police on Thursday identified a woman they say was killed by gunfire one week after she was found dead in a vehicle in northeast Salem.

The Salem Police Department identified the woman as 42-year-old Marcie Ann Harris, of Salem.

The department notified Harris’ family of her death, according to a Thursday news release.

The agency said Thursday they were investigating the incident as a homicide but provided no additional information in the release.

Around 6:45 a.m. on July 21, Salem officers were called to a report of a welfare check in the 3300 block of Northeast Portland Road, the agency said in a statement later that day.

Officers found Harris deceased and slumped over in a vehicle.

Detectives with the Salem Police Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene to investigate Harris’ death. Their early investigation showed she “died as a result of gun violence,” the release last week said.

Salem police have not announced any arrests related to Harris’ death.
