Public safety officials say they responded to a few fires linked to fireworks in the Salem area this Fourth of July weekend but saw no major blazes.
There were five fireworks-related fires in Salem between July 3 and Wednesday morning — damaging two dumpsters, some grass, a tree and a Port-A-Potty, according Greg Walsh, the city’s emergency manager.
Walsh said each call required a single fire engine response and was handled quickly.
“We did not have any major fires,” said Greg Hadley, assistant chief of the Salem Fire Department, in an email.
Marion County Fire District No. 1 had four calls related to fireworks on July 4, one of which spread to a duplex and caused moderate damage, said Chief Kyle McMann.
Sgt. Jeremy Landers, spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said he was not aware of any major fires the agency responded to on the holiday.
