So, the swelter of Sunday will give way to moderation on Monday as Salem is forecast to see slowly dropping temperatures in the coming days.
And if you feel like celebrating, Salem on Sunday set a record for the highest temperature ever – reaching 112 degrees at 3:30 p.m. The temperature stayed there a couple of hours and didn’t drop below 100 degrees until just before 9 p.m. The low temperature by 4 a.m. was 76.
“This smashes its all time record high temperature” of 108 degrees set on Aug. 9, 1891, July 15, 1941, and July 23, 1927, the weather service reported. Weather records in Salem date back to the 1890s.
Forecast bottom line: “Monday will be another hot day with temperatures peaking in the 107-113 range…Those stuck in inland areas without access to air conditioning are in real danger of heat-related illness.”
