Shooting reported Thursday in East Lancaster area

A shooting was reported in the East Lancaster area of Salem Thursday evening.

No injuries were reported, according to Salem Police spokeswoman Lt. Debra Aguilar. A caller reported hearing shots fired near the the 4000 block of Clay Street Northeast around 6:13 p.m.

Aguilar said the shooting hasn’t been classified as a drive-by and no motive has been developed.

Thursday night’s shooting is the fifth in the past week. Early Sunday morning a 16-year-old was shot and killed in Englewood Park. Three hours later, a 24-year-old died after being shot in the 400 block of 22nd Street Northeast. 

On Monday, there were reports of gunfire around 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of Evergreen Avenue Northeast. That night, three people were injured in drive-by shooting at 47th Avenue Northeast near Polaris Street Northeast.

Alberto Medina-Cortes, 43, was arrested and charged with murder in the 22nd Street case. No other arrests have been made.

Police haven’t said that the recent shootings are gang-related. Salem police recently disbanded their gang team, Aguilar said.
