A Wilsonville man killed in Tuesday afternoon’s crash on Center Street Northwest was a state analyst well regarded by his peers.
Marshal Leslie, 27, worked as a developer/analyst in the Department of Consumer and Business Services, which aims to protect consumers and support a positive business climate in the state.
Leslie had been working with the IT team since November 2017. Before that, he worked for the Public Employee’s Retirement System after graduating from Western Oregon University in 2014.
In a company-wide email sent Wednesday, DCBS Director Cameron Smith told employees Leslie had dedicated his technical skills and career to public service. Smith described him as an outstanding individual, team member and IT professional.
“As co-workers and as a team, we join his family and friends in grieving his loss. We look forward to seeing how we can best support his family in this time of need and will share any memorial service plans when they become available,” Smith wrote.
Leslie worked in the Labor and Industries Building at 350 Winter Street N.E., about two blocks away from where the crash occurred Tuesday afternoon.
He was crossing Center Street Northwest near Safeway when he was hit by a Cadillac SUV driven by 35-year-old Salem resident Willie Dempsey.
Before the collision, Dempsey ran a red light and Salem Police spokesman Lt. Treven Upkes said he may have been experiencing a “medical issue.”
Little is known about the driver, who worked at a manufacturing company, according to Upkes.
Upkes said no citations or arrests have been made in the case.
